Sussex County Defeats Jackals in Game One

The Sussex County Miners scored two runs in the bottom of the eighth inning to defeat the New Jersey Jackals, 5-3 on Monday night.

Sussex County tied a Can-Am League record with its 13th straight home win.

Jackals first baseman Dean Green started the scoring in the first inning with an RBI single to score left fielder John Reuttiger.

Third baseman Seth Spivey followed by driving in short stop Carlos Triunfel later in the inning to give New Jersey a 2-0 lead.

Miners first baseman Audy Ciriaco hit his fourth home run of the season in the bottom of the inning to cut the lead to one with a solo shot.

In the seventh inning, catcher Kevin Torres broke the tie with an RBI single to score third baseman Daniel Canela to make the game 3-1, Jackals.

But, in the bottom of the frame, center fielder Jayce Ray tied the game up for Sussex County, delivering a two RBI double.

Sussex County was at it again in the eighth inning.

Two more runs came home on an RBI single by left fielder Connor Crane, giving the Miners its first lead of the night at 5-3.

Alex Demchak won his first game of the season for the Miners and improved his scoreless innings streak to 19.2 after working two innings out of the bullpen, allowing just only four hits.

The Jackals look to snap a three-game losing streak on July 3 at 7:05 P.M. when game two takes place at Skylands Stadium.
