
Jackals Unload On North Shore In Victory

Little Falls, NJ- The Jackals thumped the Spirit with four homeruns and 17 hits, en route to a blowout 14-1 victory over the North Shore Spirit.
New Jersey again came out of the gates hot in the top of the first. Wilton Veras, Wady Almonte, and Chris Rowan all singled for RBI ¬â¢s, putting the Jackals ahead 3-0.
The Spirit would counter with some offense of their own, in the bottom half of the first. Marcos Agramonte would walk, steal second, and advance to third on a throwing error by catcher Jay LaFlair. He would score on a sacrifice by Vic Davilla.
The Jackals offense would break open the ballgame in the top of the second. A pair of three run homeruns by Kevin Grijak and Chris Rowan put a six spot on the scoreboard for New Jersey, giving them a huge 9-1 advantage.
In the eighth, New Jersey added five more runs to their lead. Rick Elder led off the inning with a solo homerun. Alberto Vasquez then walked. With one on, Almonte hit a moonshot to left field, for a two run homerun, his sixth of the season. The following batter Scott Goodman was hit by a pitch, by reliever Miguel Marichal, which led to a bench clearing brawl. Ejected as a result of the brawl were Goodman, Marichal, and Onix Mercado. After all the smoke cleared, Jay LaFlair was hit by a pitch. Zach Smithlin then singled, setting the stage for John Anderson. Anderson singled, scoring two, making it a 14-1 New Jersey lead.
Starting pitcher Mike Perkins pitched five solid innings for New Jersey. He held the Spirit to two hits, one run, and no earned runs, while picking up his second win of 2004. Evan Neiser pitched four innings in relief for New Jersey, and was awarded the save.
For North Shore, starter Aaron Dean went only an inning and a third, while giving up nine runs, and six earned.
Wilton Veras was 3-4, for the Jackals, with two runs scored and one batted in. Chris Rowan was 2-5 with a homerun and four runs batted in.
Vic Davilla was 0-2 with an RBI for North Shore
North Shore only managed three total hits in the ballgame.
