New Haven County Cutters News Release
(West Haven, CT- June 23, 2004) The Northeast League named New Haven Starter Tony Harden as the league's Pitcher of the Week award winner.
Harden, the first Cutter player in team history to win a Northeast League weekly award, came within three outs of throwing his first professional no-hitter. Only four times has a Northeast League player tossed a no-hitter in the league's nine year history. Harden retired 27 of the 30 batters he faced. Bangor's Mike Grasso ended Harden's attempt when he singled to lead off the ninth inning. Harden settled for the 10th one-hitter in league history. Now in his seventh season of Independent Baseball, he finished the game with a season-high 12 strikeouts, while walking two.
The Cutters are currently surging with a Northeast League season-high 9-game winning streak. New Haven kept the streak alive with an 11-inning come-from-behind victory last night against the Quebec Capitales. The Northeast League record for consecutive victories is 13 accomplished by the New Jersey Jackals in the 2002 season when current Cutters Billy Rich, AJ Brack and Ryan Kane were members of that team, which went on to win the Northeast League Championship.
The Cutters open up a three-game series against the North Shore Spirit on Friday, June 25th. The weekend series will include WPLR's Friday Night Fireworks (June 25th) and WEBE 108 Family FUNday (June 27th). Tickets are still available for June 23rd game by logging onto www.cuttersbaseball.com, stopping by the Box Office or by calling the Cutters front office at (203) 777-5636.
