Elmira Jackals News Release
TRENTON, N.J. - December 2, 2012 - The Elmira Jackals claimed a resounding 6-2 win over the Trenton Titans at the Sun National Bank Center on Sunday afternoon. The win improved Elmira's record to 10-8-2 on the season.
For the fifth straight road game the Jackals gave themselves the 1-0 lead with the first goal of the game. Unlike last night, though, they did not allow the Titans to comeback and tie it as they piled on two more goals to take a 3-0 lead after one. Artem Demkov sneaked home a wrist shot 2:15 into the game to open the scoring. Andrew Rowe set up that goal with a feed from the right wing for his first point of the night. Demkov showed off his playmaking skills with a setup that Jack Downing buried while the Jackals were on a 4-on-3 power play at 13:23 of the first. Louie Caporusso also assisted on the marker. Elmira then went on a 5-on-3 shortly after Downing's marker and Jean Bourbeau padded the lead with his fourth goal of the season 1:03 after the Downing goal. That capped the first period scoring and Marc Cheverie stopped all nine of the shots he faced.
In the second the Titans ratcheted up the offense and earned a pair of goals for their efforts. But Downing potted an unassisted shorthanded goal to make sure Trenton didn't get too close. Marcel Noebels scored his fourth goal of the weekend off of a 2-on-1 rush 3:06 into the stanza. Downing's second of the night followed 1:11 later in quick reply. Ian Slater tried to give the Titans a boost heading into the third with a slap shot that eluded Cheverie with 30 seconds left in the second.
Elmira was not fazed by the late second-period goal and potted a pair in the third to ensure the victory. Rowe scored a highlight reel goal at 9:29 to make it 5-2. He fended off a backchecking Slater as he skated down the slot then dodged Scott Wedgwood's poke check. In the process of dodging the Titans' goalie, Rowe went airborne but was still able to tuck the puck across the line. Bourbeau capped the scoring by finishing off a 2-on-1 with Downing with 3:59 to play.
Cheverie stopped 28 shots in earning his seventh win of the season. The Jackals were 2-for-7 on the power play and 5-for-5 on the penalty kill.
