New Jersey Jackals News Release

Little Falls, NJ - The New Jersey Jackals began their 2007 run for a Can-Am League Championship in style, with a huge 4-2, come-from-behind, win over the Nashua Pride. The Jackals have a 1-0 lead in the best-of-five series.

Nashua scored the first run of the 2007 postseason in the bottom of the first inning. Following a double by Olmo Rosario that set up runners at second and third with one out, a Chris Collabello RBI ground out gave the Pride the early lead.

In the third, New Jersey tied up the game briefly at one with Jud Thigpen's solo homerun, but the Pride used a solo homerun by John Ramistella in the bottom half of the inning to re-take the lead.

The Jackals again evened up the score in the fourth when Marcos Rodriguez smashed an RBI single into right field.

The score remained the same till the top of the seventh when Francisco Leandro's solo homerun, his first since June 26th, gave the Jackals a slim 3-2 lead.

New Jersey added insurance in the eighth. With Thigpen at first, Joe Mihalics singled into right field where outfielder John Ramistella let the ball roll past his glove, allowing Thigpen to score. After seven and a half, the Jackals lead was 4-2, and that was the final

John Kelly tossed 135 pitches in seven innings, en route to the win. He allowed two runs, both earned, on four hits, and four walks while striking out nine.

The loss went to Hideki Nagasaka who scattered seven hits in 6.2 innings, leading to three earned runs.

New Jersey closer Tom Atlee recorded the final six outs of the ballgame for the save.
