(NASHUA, NH, September 5, 2007) Francisco Leandro's two-out solo homerun in the top of the seventh inning Tuesday night snapped a 2-2 tie and paced the New Jersey Jackals to a 4-2 victory over the Nashua Pride in the opener of their best-of-five Can-Am League playoff series in front of 850 fans at Historic Holman Stadium. Leandro belted a Hideki Nagasaka pitch over the right field wall to give the Jackals the lead they would never relinquish.

Nashua took the early lead in the first inning. Jermy Acey drew a one out walk, moved to third on a double by Can-Am League Player of the Year Olmo Rosario and scored on an infield grounder off the bat of Chris Colabello.

New Jersey tied it in the third on a solo home run by Jud Thigpen off Nagasaka. The Pride re-took the lead in the bottom of the third on a solo homerun by John Ramistella off New Jersey starter and winner John Kelly. The Jackals tied it in the fourth on a run-scoring single by Carlos Rodriguez.

Nagasaka exited the game following the homerun by Leandro. He worked six and two-thirds innings, scattering seven hits, allowing three runs (all earned), walking two and striking out five. He was replaced by Steve Palazzolo who worked an inning and one-third allowing one unearned run and fanning three. Angelo Burrows and Beau Hintz finished up out of the Nashua bullpen.

Kelly went seven strong innings for New Jersey. He allowed just four hits, two earned runs (both earned), he walked four and struck out nine. Tom Atlee pitched the final two innings for the Jackals and was credited with the save. Atlee struck out four batters bringing the total to 13 strikeouts for the Jackals in the ballgame.

Game two of the best-of-five series will be played Thursday night at 6:35 in Nashua. Akira Okamoto (RHP, 9-2, 2.88) will try to get the Pride even in the series. The Jackals are scheduled to pitch Joel Bennett (RHP, 3-2, 3.24). All Pride post season games can be heard on the Internet at www.nashuapride.com or www.canamleague.com.
