Skyhawks make changes with coaching staff

Today in Augusta, New Jersey, the Sussex Skyhawks announced that the contracts of Manager Brian Drahman, Pitching Coach Pedro Sierra, and Hitting Coach Jeremy Booth would not be renewed for the 2008 season. Drahman and Sierra had been in their positions with the organization since the team inception in 2006. Booth was with the Skyhawks as a player in 2006, while this year serving as a coach until his activation as a player the last two weeks of the season.

In two seasons as the Skyhawks Skipper, Drahman posted a record of 66-117 (.360). The club posted a 23-22 record in the first half of the 2006 season and finished just 2.5 games out of a playoff position. Since that period the Skyhawks record was 43-95 (.311). The Skyhawks did post an improvement from 32-58 (.355) in 2006 to 34-59 (.365) in 2007.

No replacement for Drahman or the other coaches have been named to the staff.

In other news at the stadium, this Friday, September 7th at 7 pm, the Vernon Vikings will kick off the 2007 SCIL football season against the Newton Braves at Skylands Park. Due to an on going construction project at Vernon High School, Vernon has contracted with the Sussex Skyhawks to host all five of the Vikings home games.

The next game on the schedule is Thursday, September 20th at 7 pm, against the Jefferson Falcons. The other games at Skylands include Friday, October 5th versus the Kittatinny Cougars, Friday, October 26th against the Lenape Valley Patriots, and the season finale Friday, November 3rd against the Sparta Spartans.
