Elmira Jackals News Release

MANCHESTER, N.H.- Matt Lane scored 1:46 into overtime and the Elmira Jackals (9-22-5-0) knocked off the Manchester Monarchs (24-10-2-2), 5-4, Friday night at SNHU Arena. The win snapped the Monarchs' eight-game home winning streak and the Jackals' eight-game road losing streak.

The Jackals took a first period lead on the road on the strength of their power play. After coming up empty in their first man advantage, the Jackals made sure to convert on their second one. Jackals All-Star Sam Povorozniouk received a pass from Sebastien Sylvestre and raced down the left wing. He got to the bottom of the left circle before snapping a perfect shot under the crossbar to give Elmira a 1-0 lead.

Less than four minutes later, the Jackals doubled their lead on Ian Young's first goal of the season. It started with an extended shift in the Monarchs zone. Manchester finally cleared the line, but the Jackals didn't waste any time to go back on the attack with Matt Lane feeding Casey Thrush down the right wing. He chipped a pass to Young at the left circle and the Jackals defenseman beat Jonah Imoo with a backhand shot at 15:10 to make it 2-0.

Elmira played a strong second period and extend the lead even more late in the middle frame, capitalizing on the only man advantage of the period for either team. Steven Kaunisto gathered the puck at the left point and moved a cross-ice pass to Greg Amlong near the right point. Amlong stepped in toward the top of the right circle before hammering a slap shot. Imoo got a big piece of the shot, but it trickled between his legs and crossed the line to give the Jackals their second power-play goal and a 3-0 lead with 23 seconds to play in the second period.

Manchester rallied from that 3-0 deficit in the third period on the strength of a natural hat trick by Matt Leitner. He began the comeback with a tally at 4:07 of the third. Then he hammered in a power-play goal at 6:06 to make it a 3-2 game early in the period. The Jackals settled down after that, but Leitner finished off the hat trick with a deflection goal at 12:57 of the third, tying the game 3-3.

The Monarchs grabbed their first lead two minutes later on a one-timer from Quentin Shore from the left circle, after the Jackals failed to clear the puck. That blast put Manchester up 4-3 with 5:26 left in regulation.

The Jackals put together their own comeback in the waning minutes of regulation, getting the game-tying goal with 1:18 left in the third. Matt Lane got the puck to Davis Vandane at the right point and he teed up a slap shot, which was deflected in by Kenton Miller in the slot, making it a 4-4 game and sending the teams into overtime for the second time in the six-game season series.

In overtime, Sam Povorozniouk picked up the puck and created a 2-on-1 with Lane, who went to the crease. Povorozniouk's shot was stopped by Imoo, but Lane popped in the rebound at 1:46 of overtime to complete a four-point night (1g, 3a) and give the Jackals a 5-4 win over the Monarchs.
