Jackals Still Crunching Numbers As Deadline Approaches

ELMIRA, NY - The Elmira Jackals, proud member of the ECHL, announced today that they have signed center Scott May to a standard players contract. The Jackals also added goaltender Joel Martin, who had been on loan to Binghamton (AHL). The club also trimmed their roster with the release of forwards Matt Syroczynski and Justin Chwedoruk along with defensemen Jon Hedberg and Chad Brownlee.

May,25, is a former 7th round draft pick (222nd overall) of the Toronto Maple Leafs in the 2002 NHL Entry Draft. The White Rock, British Columbia, native led the Phoenix Roadrunners (ECHL) in scoring last year with 31 points in 23 games when he was signed by Iowa (AHL). He remained with the Stars for the rest of the 2006-07 campaign, posting five goals and 10 points in 28 games with Iowa. In 71 career ECHL game, May has totaled 31 goals and 68 points.

Martin, acquired by Elmira in a trade with Trenton this summer, had been with the AHL Senators since the start of their regular season and did not appear in any of their three games this year.

Syroczynski, Chwedoruk and Hedberg had appeared in one preseason contest each with no points. Brownlee suited up in two games with no points and 4 PIM.

With ECHL Opening Night rosters due by 3 p.m. on Wednesday, October 17, the Jackals now have 26 players on their roster with their season opener against the Wheeling Nailers coming up on Friday, October 19th.
