Stockton's Winchester Suspended Eight Games, Fined

October 16, 2007 - ECHL (ECHL) News Release

PRINCETON, N.J. - The ECHL announced that it has suspended Stockton defenseman Jeff Winchester for eight games and fined him an undisclosed amount as a result of his actions in ECHL Preseason Game #26 against Fresno on Oct. 13.

"Mr. Winchester approached an unsuspecting opponent and delivered a deliberate crosscheck to the head area," said ECHL Vice President of Hockey Operations Rod Pasma. "Fortunately, his act did not result in injury.

"The ECHL will not tolerate such actions from our players."

Winchester is suspended and fined under Rule 29 Supplemental Discipline.

Under the terms of the Collective Bargaining Agreement between the ECHL and the Professional Hockey Players' Association, player fines collected by the ECHL are given to the PHPA for its ECHL Player's Hardship Fund.

Waived through the ECHL on Oct. 16, Winchester would not be eligible to play in the league until Nov. 7 and until his fine is paid in full.
