Inferno sign Cavosie

(COLUMBIA, S.C.) Oct. 16, 2007- The Columbia Inferno have signed center Marc Cavosie, head coach and director of hockey operations Troy Mann announced today.

The 26-year-old Cavosie played the 2006-07 season with Rogle BK of the Swedish Allsvenskan league, where he had six assists and 18 penalty minutes in 27 games for one of the oldest clubs in Sweden.

Prior to going overseas, the six-foot, 180-pound native of Albany, N.Y., played four years in the American Hockey League with the Houston Aeros and Philadelphia Phantoms. Cavosie tallied 99 points (26 goals, 73 assists) and 99 penalty minutes in 252 regular season AHL games from the 2002-03 season through 2005-06. In addition, he also tallied nine points (four goals, five assists) and 14 penalty minutes in 25 career Calder Cup playoff games.

"Marc has great skill and is a very good skater," Mann said. " His abundant AHL experience will make him a top player in our league."

Cavosie was selected in the fourth round, 99th overall, in the 2000 NHL Entry Draft by the Minnesota Wild. Prior to turning pro, Cavosie played three seasons with Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. From 1999-2000 through 2001-02, Cavosie notched 109 points (48 goals, 61 assists) and 117 penalty minutes in 97 career games with the Engineers.

The Inferno also pared their roster by two, as forward Matt Caranci was released from his tryout contract and winger Kelly Thomson was released from his ECHL contract.
