New Jersey Jackals News Release
Little Falls, NJ â Following a first half South Division Championship, the New Jersey Jackals started the second half as they finished the first.
After falling to the Brockton Rox last Friday evening at Campanelli Stadium, the Jackals recovered in the final two games of the series, winning both ballgames convincingly. New Jersey has not lost a series to the Rox during the 2004 season. They have taken six of nine ballgames.
In terms of hitting, Wilton Veras, Wady Almonte, Kevin Grijak, and Chris Rowan lead the team offensively. All-Star third baseman Veras, leads the ball club in batting average at .351. Almonte and Grijak are among the league leaders in runs batted in and lead the Jackals with 36. Rowan has emerged as one of the league's most dynamic power hitters. Having hit five homeruns in the span of a week, Rowan propelled his season total to a team leading 10.
Pitching has been another strong point of the Jackals since opening day. With a team ERA of 3.87, New Jersey is ranked third in the Northeast League and leads the league in strikeouts with 347. New Jersey sports three pitchers with four wins: Jackson Crowther, Carlos Figueroa, Josh Miller, and Aaron Myers. In relief, Fabricio Benitez and Evan Neiser have led the charge out of the bullpen with ERA's of 1.80 and 1.50, respectively.
The Jackals have started the second half with a 2-1 record. More impressive, New Jersey won 14 of 17 games in the month of July, and look to continue that trend on Thursday night when the action again gets underway.
The Northeast League Aces come to Yogi Berra Stadium on Thursday, July 22, 2004. The first pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. It is a Thirsty Thursday at the stadium, along with Jack the Jackal's birthday.
