Elmira Jackals News Release
Elmira, NY - The Elmira Jackals improved their record to 3-0 against the Danbury Trashers this season with a 3-2 shootout victory Friday night at the First Arena.
Elmira is the only team in the UHL not to have a lost to the first place Trashers this season. The Jackals came out flying in the opening period, playing their first home game in two-and-a-half weeks, following 6-straight road games. But even with Elmira's invigorated form, it was Danbury who scored first. David Hymovitz scored a power play goal from Frederic Belanger and Jeff Daw at 9:24 of the opening period, the only goal of the first twenty minutes.
In the second period Elmira would fight right back, after being out-shot by seven in the first period, the Jackals out-shot Danbury 13-11 and would score twice to claim the lead. First Kevin Cooper finished off a superb pass from Florian Iberer for a short handed goal at 15:17. Iberer picked off a cross-ice pass at the Elmira blue line, skated around a Trashers defenseman, then snuck the puck back to Cooper in the slot for the tying goal. At 16:43 Ed Campbell and Dave MacIsaac for Danbury and John Donnelly for Elmira were all given Game Misconducts for their actions in a line brawl. With 28 seconds left in the period, Jackals leading scorer Chris Chaput gave Elmira a 2-1 lead, assisted by Craig MacDonald and Chris Mann.
In the third period Danbury would draw level at 12:48 courtesy of a goal from Drew Omicioli, assisted by Mike Omicioli and Jamie Thompson. In the shootout, Jackals goaltender Nick Boucher put on a clinic. First he stopped J.M. Daoust and Jamie Thompson. Then after Konstantin Kalmikov and Jason Sessa scored in rounds two and three for the Jackals, Boucher denied Frederic Belanger and Regan Kelly to blank the Trashers in the shootout and give Elmira a big win at the First Arena.
Boucher earned the game's second star with his sensational form in goal, stopping 41-of-43 in the game and all 4 Danbury attempts in the shootout for his 4th win of the season. Jayme Platt took the loss for the Trashers, making 32 saves on 34 shots and 1-of-3 in the shootout.
Elmira has a week off to enjoy the Christmas holiday and they are back in action at the First Arena Friday December 30th for a 7:05 pm showdown with the Adirondack Frostbite, their first trip to Elmira during the regular season.
