New Jersey Jackals News Release

Pittsfield, Mass. - In a game that was delayed one hour, 19 minutes due to rain, the New Jersey Jackals plated four eighth-inning runs to tie the contest, but fell to the Pittsfield Colonials, 6-5, on a soggy Saturday night at Wahconah Park. The win was Pittsfield sixth straight.

After falling behind 1-0 on a first-inning RBI single by Billy Mottram, the Jackals evened the score in the top of the fifth on a run-scoring single off the bat of Myron Leslie to make it 1-1. From there, Pittsfield plated four straight runs to build a 5-1 lead.

In the top of the eighth inning, New Jersey rallied all the way back against reliever MacKenzie King to tie the game at five. A Sean Smith sacrifice fly made it 5-2 before a Mike DeJesus RBI single cut the Jackals' deficit to 5-3. The next batter, D'Angelo Jimenez, connected on his first home run with New Jersey, a two-run blast to right center, to deadlock the score at 5-5.

In the bottom of the eighth, Scott Knazek reached base on a one-out walk and advanced to third when Jermel Lomack grounded to second and Leslie threw the ball away trying to nail the lead runner at second base. The Jackals called on closer Jeff Gogal, who induced Jerod Edmondson to pop out to short before Danny Bomback singled home the what proved to be the winning run.

Both starters pitched well, but neither factored in the decision. New Jersey southpaw Jon Kibler allowed three runs (two earned) on seven hits over five innings, striking out five batters without issuing a walk. Pittsfield rookie T.J. Wink struck out a career-high 10 batters, walking five while surrendering one run on five hits over five innings. Reliever Chris Rubio (1-1) pitched 1 1/3 scoreless innings to notch the win while New Jersey's Mike Petrowski (1-4) allowed an unearned run in the eighth to absorb the loss.

For New Jersey, Jimenez homered and drew three walks while DeJesus and Jordan Newton each collected a pair of hits. Leslie went 3-for-5, turning in his third straight multi-hit outing.

The Jackals and Colonials play the third contest of their four-game series on Sunday afternoon at 2 p.m. at Wahconah Park when New Jersey sends southpaw A.J. Wideman (2-2, 4.05 ERA) the mound against Pittsfield right-hander Miguel Flores (2-7, 4.42 ERA). Cody Chrusciel has the call on the live webcast beginning 10 minutes prior to first pitch at www.jackals.com.
