Worcester 1, New York 0
In a game that saw excellent pitching by both starters, Worcester used a solo homer by 3B Mark Minicozzi to top New York 1-0. Lefty Shawn Gilblair was superb for the Tornadoes as he struck out 13 batters over eight innings of work to earn the victory and improve his record to 4-5. He allowed just five hits and walked none. Minicozzi's homerun came in the fourth inning and was his eleventh of the season. Federals starter Jim Schult was the hard luck loser as he nearly matched Gilblair for 7.2 innings. He also surrendering just five hits, struck out six and dropped to 1-4 with the loss.
Brockton 3, Rockland 1
Brockton scored twice in the bottom of the eighth inning to snap a 1-1 tie and defeat Rockland by a final of 3-1. With one out and men on second and third, DH Melvin Falu singled to center, scoring Chris Valencia and Alex Sumner to set up a save situation for Brockton closer Jake Hale. Hale struck out the first two men in a 1-2-3 ninth and recorded his eleventh save. Brockton starter John Kelly turned in a strong performance as he worked seven innings and allowed just five hits and one base on balls while striking out seven.
Quebec 2, Newark 1 (11 Innings)
A well pitched game ended in anti-climactic fashion as Quebec used a bases-loaded walk to score the winning run in extra innings, downing Newark by a score of 2-1. Dan Sausville tossed seven solid innings for the Capitales as he scattered eight hits and walked two while striking out four. Casey Gaynor was impressive for the Bears as he went seven innings, allowing five hits and zero walks while striking out a pair. Both received no decision. The teams combined to leave 16 men on base in the contest.
Pittsfield 6, New Jersey 5
After New Jersey tied the game 5-5 with four runs in the top of the eighth inning, Pittsfield scored in the bottom of the frame and held off the Jackals by a final of 6-5. SS Danny Bomback and 3B Johnny Welch paced the Pittsfield attack as they each collected three hits in the game and combined to drive in three runs. Jackals 2B Myron Leslie went 3-for 4 and 3B DAngelo Jimenez homered and drew three walks for New Jersey. Colonials Starter T.J. Wink was the winner as he struck out 10 in just five innings, improving his record to 3-0.
