Can-Am New Jersey Jackals

Jackals Pour On The Offense In Game Two

July 24, 2012 - Canadian American League (Can-Am)
New Jersey Jackals News Release

Right-hander Kyle Greenwalt threw seven innings of five-hit ball as the Jackals' offense exploded to an 11-2 victory over the Worcester Tornadoes.

Greenwalt earns his fourth victory of the season on a cloudy Tuesday night in Little Falls. Coming off an eight-inning performance in a loss to the Gary SouthShore RailCats last time out, Greenwalt allowed two Tornado runs on five hits in seven innings. His seven strikeouts ties a season-high.

Newly acquired reliever Marc Rutledge made his professional debut tonight. With Jake Hale on the DL as of today, the rookie was fantastic - two innings, no runs, one hit, three strikeouts.

For the second straight night, the Tornadoes sent a rookie right-hander to the mound. Tonight, Harvard-grad Conner Hulse got the loss in his second career start. He went four-and-a-third innings, allowing seven runs, five earned, on nine hits. Hulse moves to 0-2 on the season.

The Jackals scored in five of eight innings. Every Jackals starter reached base, and all but two recorded an RBI.

Matt Cusick led the way with two triples and an RBI. His two triples ties a Can-Am record held by many.

Francisco Carraballo and Chris Curran each tallied a three-hit game. It's Carraballo's 12th multi-hit game of the month. Curran is 20 for his last 47.

Gaetano Giunta singled in his pinch-hit appearance in the eighth inning to extend his hitting streak to nine.

A Chris Torres RBI single in the third and Johnny Welch's 15th home run of the season accounted for the Tornadoes' two runs on the day.

The Jackals also move to 36-27 with the victory, and coupled with Rockland's loss to Newark are now two-and-a-half games ahead of the Boulders for second place in the Can-Am standings.

The Tornadoes fall to 18-45.

In the victory, Jackals' manager Joe Calfapietra earned win number 599 in his managerial career. Calfapietra has been with the Jackals since 2003 and is the longest tenured coach in the Can-Am League.

JoeCal won't have to wait long for a shot at 600. The two squads play the finale of the three-game set tomorrow morning at Yogi Berra Stadium. Right-hander Steve Fox (8-1, 2.88) goes for New Jersey in search of his Can-Am-leading ninth victory. He squares off with Mike Gedman (2-1, 5.23). First pitch is scheduled for 11:05 a.m. with the pre-game beginning at 10:55 a.m.

The New Jersey Jackals, proud members of the Canadian-American Association of Professional Baseball, play their home games at Yogi Berra Stadium located on the campus of Montclair State University in Little Falls, NJ. 2012 single-game tickets, season tickets, mini-plans and group outings are available by calling 973-746-7434.
