Greenwalt Limits Tornadoes to Two Runs in Jackals' 11-2 Win

Johnny Welch's solo home run was the only earned run for the Worcester Tornadoes in an 11-2 loss at the hands of the New Jersey Jackals Tuesday night at Yogi Berra Stadium. Kyle Greenwalt tossed seven effective innings for the victory.

The Jackals put up three runs in the third inning on a Matt Cusick RBI triple (one of two three-baggers he had), a Francisco Caraballo sacrifice fly and a Nick Salotti single.

In the third inning, New Jersey added two more runs, courtesy of a Carlos Guzman ground out and Matt Nandin's second RBI double in as many nights.

Conner Hulse gave up two more runs in his second professional start, allowing one in the fourth on a throwing error by Tony Patane on Cusick's second triple, and one an inning later, as Nick Giarraputo touched home after Hulse left the game after knocking him out of it via a lead-off single.

Sean Keeler gave up two earned runs of his own and one inherited runner before Kyle Regnault blanked the Jackals for a pair of innings. Matt McDonald gave up an unearned run on a passed ball in the ninth to cap New Jersey's scoring.

The first Tornadoes run came in the third inning, after Cameron Monger reached on an error by Nick Giarraputo. The Worcester right fielder stole second, then came home on a Chris Torres single to make it 3-1 Jackals at the time.

Three innings later, Welch hit his 15th homer of the year to the opposite field. It was one of three hits Greenwalt allowed. The Jackals' starter struck out six Worcester batters and walked one.

Game three of the series is at 11:05am on Wednesday, as the Tornadoes player their second straight Wednesday day game against New Jersey. Pre-game coverage begins at 10:50 on USTREAM.tv. Mike Gedman will be on the hill for the visitors, with Steve Fox opposing him.
