New Jersey Jackals News Release
Little Falls, NJ - The Brockton seemed like they were playing from behind all night, and they did it effectively. After tying the game and sending it into extra frames, they slammed the Jackals with a five-run top of the 11th, to stun the fans at Yogi Berra Stadium. The final score was 9-6.
The Jackals took advantage of two passed balls in the bottom of the first inning, to score their first run. With one out, and runners at second and third, John Lindsey grounded into a fielder's choice, allowing Guillermo Reyes to score.
In the second, they piled onto their lead. An RBI triple by Alex Fernandez pushed across the first run, but the second was a bit more unconventional. With Fernandez on third, Joe Mihalics tried the squeeze play, and it was successful. After two innings, the Jackals had a 3-0 lead.
Brockton cut into the Jackal lead in the fourth thanks to a no-doubter off the bat of Francisco Lebron. Lebron launched a solo blast over the wall in left-center for the first run for the Rox.
Another homerun brought the Rox closer in the fifth. This time, Brad Rosenblat cracked a solo blast to left field, making it a one-run game. And in the seventh, they sent the game to square one with another run off of Bennett. With the bases loaded, and no outs, Jason Radwan grounded into a double play, allowing the equalizer to score.
Despite the Brockton comeback, the Jackals kept their composure. With relieve Edwin Morel on the mound, John Lindsey delivered with a huge RBI double, over the head of the centerfielder Rosenblat, to put New Jersey in the drivers seat, but for only a moment.
The Rox came right back with a clutch hit of their own in the ninth, to tie the game. A leadoff single Rosenblat, set up Joe Hough's game tying double into right field, sending the game into the bottom of the ninth deadlocked at four.
And in the eleventh, Hough plagued the Jackals again with another RBI double, this time off Aaron Myers, and it proved to be the game winner. Brockton put the nail in the coffin three batters later, as Radwan took Myers yard for a grand slam. It gave the Rox a 9-4 lead out of nowhere.
In bottom half of the inning, the Jackals showed one burst of life via a two-run homerun by Fernandez. It brought the Jackals within three, but they couldn't make up the rest.
The win went to Edwin Morell in relief. New Jersey's Aaron Myers suffered the painful loss surrendering all five runs in the 11th.
