
Nashua's Stevens Works Seven Innings For Fourth Victory

(Nashua, NH) The Nashua Pride (21-15, 38-40) snapped their two-game losing streak Friday night in a 10-2 triumph over the New Haven County Cutters (20-16, 39-43) before 1,167 at Historic Holman Stadium. Sean Dobson, Jayson Bass and Larry Bethea drove in three runs apiece to lead the Nashua attack.
The Pride took the early lead in the first inning when Bethea's two-out single to centerfield drove home Bass.
New Haven went ahead, 2-1, with a pair of second inning runs on a sacrifice fly by Doug Vroman and a run-scoring single off the bat of Marcus Nettles. That was to be the only lead of the game for the Cutters.
Nashua tallied three runs in the bottom of the second inning on a bases clearing double by Dobson. The Pride broke it open with four in the fourth on a run-scoring double by James Lofton and a three-run homer down the left field line by Bass, his fifth of the season. Nashua completed its scoring in the seventh when Bethea belted a two-run homer, his eighth.
Pride starter Josh Stevens (4-2) went seven innings to post his fourth win. The former Boston Red Sox farmhand scattered seven hits, did not walk a batter, struck out seven and hit a New Haven batter. Relievers Aric LeClair and Vincent Davis each pitched a scoreless inning out of the Nashua bullpen.
New Haven's Tim Keinath (7-5) lasted five innings, surrendering seven hits and eight runs, five of them earned. He walked five and struck out one. Ryan Bonesio and Jarrett Stawarz finished up for the County Cutters.
Game two of the series will be played on Saturday evening at 7:05. Lefthanders will start for both clubs. Mark Hamilton (8-5, 4.34) will hurl for Nashua with Brad Whitworth (3-3, 3.69) for New Haven.
Tomorrow, it will be Butch Hobson Appreciation Night with fireworks to follow the game and Roy Campanella bobble head dolls will be given to the first 1,000 fans to enter Historic Holman Stadium.
