Jackals Mount Comeback To Defeat IceHawks

The Elmira Jackals fell behind 3-1 on Friday night to the Adirondack IceHawks before coming back to win 5-4 in a thrilling contest at the Glens Falls Civic Center.

Bogdan Rudenko scored the first goal of the game to put the ‘Hawks in the early lead, a power play goal coming at the 8:00 mark. Kevin Kerr evened things up for the Jackals with his first goal of the season from Mike Thompson, wrapping the puck around from behind the net and over goaltender Tyler MacKay.

In the second period, the Jackals fell behind as the IceHawks scored twice within :18 to build a 3-1 lead. Rudenko scored his second of the game and JC Ruid his first to grab the two-goal margin before Kerr scored his second of the game from Eddy Lowe and Ryan Esselmont. The second period would end with Elmira trailing by a goal 3-2.

In the third period, the Jackals turned the tables on Adirondack, scoring twice within :39 to grab a 4-3 lead. Randy Murphy scored his third of the season from Corey Neilson, and Aaron Phillips netted a goal with help from Thomas Clayton as Elmira enjoyed their first lead of the evening. The IceHawks tied the game when Frank Littlejohn put home a rebound in front of the Jackal net, but with 3:15 left to go Thomas Clayton scored on a goalmouth scramble, with the lone assist going to Mike Hofstrand. Clayton's goal was his second of the season and his first career game winner.

Marco Emond stopped 35 of 39 IceHawk shots to pick up his second win in as many starts. Emond also beat the IceHawks Thursday night in Elmira to help the Jackals grab all four points in the home and home series. Elmira will now travel on Saturday to Port Huron where they will take on the Eastern Conference leading Beacons Sunday at 5:05 pm. Pre-game show begins at 4:35 pm on WiNGZ 104.9.
