Blades Capture Point With 4-3 Shootout Loss

ESTERO, FL - The Florida Everblades (2-3-3) captured 3 of 4 points this weekend after falling in a shootout to the Pee Dee Pride (4-2-1) 4-3 in front of 5,799 at TECO Arena on Saturday night. Florida forward Brent McDonald tied the game with :46 left in the third period to force the overtime frame.

The Pride struck first with a goal from forward Mike Glumac at the 5:21 mark of the first period.

The Pride then took a 2-0 lead on a goal off the stick of forward Greg Schmidt at 1:06 of the second period. Florida then made it 2-1 in the second period after recently acquired defenseman Brian Goudie one timed a pass from Don Smith past Pee Dee netminder Ron Vogul. The Everblades then fell behind 3-1 after Pee Dee forward Matt Reid found the back of the net at the 3:05 mark of the second period. However, the Everblades inched back in the game and made it 3-2 after Tom Buckley snapped a rebound past Pee Dee goaltender Ron Vogul.

In the third period, after Florida pulled goaltender Rob Zepp forward Brent McDonald one timed a perfect pass from forward George Awada into the back of the net with :46 seconds left in regulation to force the overtime frame.

After a scoreless overtime period in the tenth round of the shootout Pee Dee defenseman Daniel Carriere scored for Pee Dee to give them the win and the extra point in the standings.

Florida goaltender Rob Zepp (2-1-2) stopped 27 of 31 shots he faced while Pee Dee netminder Ron Vogul (2-1-1) stopped 30 of 33 shots including two breakaways in the third period. The Everblades were 2 for 7 on the power play while the Pride were 0 for 3.

Florida takes on the South Carolina Stingrays in Charleston, SC next Friday and Saturday night at 7:30 PM. Florida returns home on Friday November 8th and Saturday November 9th to battle the Columbus Cottonmouths. Both games begin at 7:30 PM.
