GREENSBORO GENERALS
The Generals won their home opener last night, defeating the Reading Royals 3-2. Greensboro fell behind in the opening minute of the game, but they quickly leapfrogged over the Royals with first period goals from David Whitworth and Matt Turek less than a minute apart. Jay Murphy added what proved to be the game-winning goal in the second period for a 3-1 lead, and goaltender Daniel Berthiaume preserved the victory from there, stopping 32 of 34 shots on the evening.
RICHMOND RENEGADES
The Renegades defeated the Columbia Inferno at home last night 4-1. Despite losing five of their first six games of the season, Richmond dominated against the now 5-2-0 Inferno, getting a first period goal from Richard Pitirri, a second period tally from Nick Lent, and third period insurance goals from Leon Hayward and Brad Church. Goaltender Marc Magliarditi stopped 24 of 25 shots to earn his second victory of the season. The two "combatants" combined for a total of six penalty minutes for the game.

ABOUT THE GAME
Tonight is the first of eight matchups between the Generals and Renegades, with each team playing at home four times. The two teams don't square off again until Greensboro visits Richmond on December 3 The Generals were 1-4-1 last season against the Renegades, winning the final matchup of the season 4-1 on March 23.
For tonight's game as well as last night's home opener, the Generals players will be donning special edition American flag uniforms. The jerseys will be auctioned off on the Generals official team website, www.greensborogenerals.com, starting Monday, October 28 at 9:00 a.m. The silent internet auction will close the following Monday, November 4, at 12:00 noon. Don't forget fans, you can also tune into all home games in the Coliseum on closed circuit radio (96.5 FM), with Arley Johnson handling the play-by-play.
NEXT HOME GAME: The Generals continue a four game homestand against the Pee Dee Pride on Thursday, October 31 at a special 8:00 start time. Thursday's game will feature a Halloween costume contest with prizes to be handed out. The homestand concludes against the Lexington Men O' War on Friday, November 1 at 7:30. All games can be heard on WPET 950-AM.
