Greensboro Generals News Release

The Richmond Renegades scored a goal at the 1:24 mark of the overtime period to edge past the Greensboro Generals, 3-2 in front of 3,696 at the Greensboro Coliseum. The Generals now stand at 3-2-2 on the season, earning a point in the standings for a tie.

The Generals drew first blood at the 7:45 mark of the first period with a short-handed goal by David Whitworth, who scored his team-leading sixth goal of the season. Whitworth took advantage of the goalie being drawn outside the crease, taking a feed from Ole Kjenstad. The Renegades would answer with 1:35 remaining in the first period on a power play goal by Nick Lent that would knot the two teams at 1-1 going into the second.

In the second period the Renegades managed to take the lead with 12:32 in the period on a power play goal by Lars Petterson. With just 36 seconds remaining in the second, the Generals Vlad Serov evened the score with his first goal of the season on a deflection of an Andrei Lupandin wrist shot.

After a scoreless third period, the Renegades capitalized on an overtime power play for the game-winner, with Pettersen redirecting a goal-mouth pass to end the game.

The Generals next game is on Halloween Night, October 31 against the Pee Dee Pride, with a special starting time of 8:00. The contest will feature a Halloween costume party, with prizes given away to the best Halloween costumes.
