June 14, 2004 - Canadian American League (Can-Am)
New Jersey Jackals News Release

The New Jersey Jackals continued to flourish behind solid starting pitching and hitting, as they swept the weekend series with the Aces, with a 7-4 victory.

During the second inning, the Jackals started the scoring, while batting around. Chris Rowan led things off with a solo homerun. The homer was Rowan's second of the year. Two batters later, Craig Conway singled up the middle. He came around to score on the next batter. Juan Infante tripled into the right-center field gap for his first RBI of the year. Leadoff batter John Anderson then ran out an infield single, plating Infante to make it a 3-0 Jackals advantage. Kevin Grijak then came to the plate with the bases loaded, and singled into center field for two more runs. The hit gave the Jackals a 5-0 lead.

New Jersey would add one more in the bottom of the seventh. With Grijak aboard the bases, Rowan would double down the left field line. The extra base hit was Rowan's second hit of the ballgame, and his second RBI. It was Rowan's first multi hit game of the season.

The Aces managed to push one across in their half of the seventh. Mike Davis led off with a double, leading to J.P. Schmidt's RBI single, one batter later.

The Jackals would gain the run back in the bottom of the inning. Wady Almonte doubled to lead off the inning. He crossed home plate with two outs on a single by catcher Alberto Vasquez. It made the score 7-1 in favor of New Jersey.

In the eighth, new Jackal reliever Lance Odom would have major control problems. Odom gave up a single to Eustaquio Garcia. Odom then walked the next three batters, pushing across one run. The RBI is credited to first baseman Stephen Larkin. Davis then grounded into a douible play off Jackal reliever Carlos Figueroa, scoring Schuyler Doakes for the Aces third run. J.P. Schmidt then reached on an error at first base, allowing Greg Schmidt to score, making it a three-run ballgame.

Jackals starter Jackson Crowther had another great outing. Crowther went seven innings, giving up five hits, one earned run, and striking out three. With the victory, Crowther evened up his season record at 2-2. Closer Ben Grezlovski came in during the ninth and closed the game out for New Jersey. It was Grezlovskiss fourth save of the season.

Starter Clayton Andrews picked up his second loss of the season for the Aces.

New Jersey has now won five straight. With the Jackals victory, and the New Haven loss to the Brockton Rox, New Jersey regained the top spot in the Northeast League South Division by a half game.

Shortstop Juan Infante was 3-3 for New Jersey with two doubles, a triple, one RBI, and one run scored.
