
Jackals Hang on to Defeat Champions, 5-4

The New Jersey Jackals won its 31st game of the season with a 5-4 victory over the Ottawa Champions on Wednesday night at RCGT Park.
Mat Latos returned to the starting rotation for the Jackals and did not disappoint.
Latos fired four shut out innings while allowing just one walk and one hit and struck out seven.
Shortstop Carlos Triunfel hit an RBI double in the top of the second to plate center fielder David Harris and give the Jackals an early 1-0 lead.
Left fielder Connor Hofmann ripped a two run triple in the top of the seventh to score designated hitter Nolan Meadows and Triunfel, making the game 3-0, Jackals.
Taylor Oldham then hit an infield single to score Hofmann for his first Jackals RBI and the lead rose to 4-0.
Evan DeLuca and Jose Velez combined to pitch four innings out of the bullpen for New Jersey, allowing just one earned run.
Ottawa sliced into the Jackals lead in the bottom of the eighth inning.
First baseman Jordan Caillouet hit a solo home run to make it a 4-1 ball game.
Triunfel continued his hot night with his fourth home run of the year, a solo blast over the left field wall to make it 5-1.
Ottawa did not go down quietly in the bottom of the ninth.
With Jackals reliever Vin Mazzaro on the mound, the Champions chipped away at the lead.
RBI singles by Sebastian Boucher and Zak Colby made it a two run ball game at 5-3.
But, Mazzaro got Caillouet to bounce into a double play that scored Brown to make it 5-4.
Mazzaro struck out Vinny Guglietti to wrap it up and give the Jackals the tight win.
New Jersey looks to win the series in the rubber game set for 7:05 P.M. at RCGT Park on August 2.
