Jackals, Fox Take Opener vs. Newark
June 18, 2012 - Canadian American League (Can-Am)
New Jersey Jackals News Release
The Jackals scored all six of their runs in the second inning. Paired with your ordinary Steve Fox gem, the Jackals beat the Newark Bears 6-1 in the first of four in Newark.
Fox has allowed three or fewer hits in four of his six outings. He has not allowed an earned run in 19 innings
Coming off a one-hitter against Rockland that earned him Pitcher of the Week honors, Jackals starter Steve Fox held the Bears scoreless, giving up only three hits in six innings en route to a 6-1 Jackals victory. On a cool, cloudy Monday evening, Fox improves to 5-0, all wins coming following a Jackals loss. New Jersey fell 9-6 to the Capitales on Sunday.
The Jackals offense brought nine to the plate in the second inning, the loudest being Nick Giarraputo's Can-Am leading 11th home run of the season, his third straight game with a home run. His now-33 RBIs also lead the conference.
Take out the six-run second inning, and Bears starter Caleb Cuevas allowed two hits in a scoreless six-and-a-third innings pitched. Unfortunately, baseball isn't that kind, as Cuevas drops to 0-2.
Carlos Guzman continued his hot hitting. His 2-3 day gives him 11 hits in his last 17 at bats. Matt Cusick was 1-4, giving him a hit in all nine games to start his Jackals career.
With the win, the Jackals improve to 18-11, one-and-a-half games back of the first-place Quebec Capitales.
Tomorrow, the Jackals send out lefty Jon Kibler (3-1, 4.91). Kibler is coming off a complete game loss to Rockland in the second game of Thursday's double header. First pitch is 6:35 with the pregame starting 10 minutes prior. Corey Scheiner and Ryan Fitzpatrick will have the call.
The New Jersey Jackals, proud members of the Canadian-American Association of Professional Baseball, play their home games at Yogi Berra Stadium located on the campus of Montclair State University in Little Falls, NJ. 2012 single-game tickets, season tickets, mini-plans and group outings are available by calling 973-746-7434.
