New Jersey Jackals News Release

Little Falls, NJ The New Jersey Jackals scored five unanswered runs, after falling behind 1-0, and managed to hold on when the North Shore Spirit battled back in the bottom of the ninth. The final score, 5-4, in favor of the Jackals.

Through four innings, New Jersey's Josh Brey and North Shore's Bryan Morse both matched each other pitch for pitch, making for some very exciting baseball. Morse gave up one hit to that point, while Brey surrendered only two.

But in the bottom of the fifth, the Spirit broke the scoreless deadlock thanks to Brian Macchi. His leadoff solo homerun, put North Shore on the board first. New Jersey then followed up that frame with two runs in the top of the sixth. An RBI double by Benji Gil tied the score, and three batters later, the Jackals took the lead on Steve Checksfield's RBI single.

New Jersey continued their solid offensive performance in the seventh, while facing a tiring Morse. With two outs, and the bases loaded, Elvis Corporan doubled down the right field line, pushing across all three runners, making it a comfortable 5-1 Jackal lead.

The Spirit made it a nailbiter in the bottom of the ninth. Josh Tranum's three run homerun with two outs in the bottom of the ninth, made it a one run ballgame, but Brey got Cleatus Davidson to fly out to end the ballgame.

Bryan Morse was fantastic throughout the early innings, but struggled in the late frames of his outing. He lasted six and two thirds innings, while allowing five runs, all earned, on nine hits, and two walks. He fanned only three Jackals.

New Jersey's Josh Brey went the distance in a complete game effort. He scattered seven hits, two of them homeruns, while walking two and striking out six. He allowed four runs in total, all earned.
