New Jersey Jackals News Release
Little Falls, NJ - Newcomer Chris Clark's five-innings of two-run ball coupled with Francisco Caraballo's two home runs helped the Jackals to a 10-6 win over the St. Paul Saints 10-4, taking the series three games to one.
The Jackals acquired Clark early Thursday morning, who had not pitched since 2010. It didn't matter. Clark struck out five and gave up only four hits on the day for the win.
The Jackals opened up the scoring early with a two-run single by Nick Giarraputo in the first. The Jackals' third baseman currently holds the Can-Am triple crown - tied for seven home runs (Angel Berroa), a .448 average, and 24 RBIs,
After the bats fell silent for four straight innings, the Jackals came alive in the fifth led by a three-run homer by Caraballo after Angel Berroa's two-run single earlier in the inning.
Bryan Sabatella would have a homer of his own in the next frame, blasting a two-run shot to left field. The next batter, Caraballo, would respond with his second homer of the day and his third in the past two days.
Sabatella finished a triple shy of the cycle.
For George Tsamis' Saints, they drop their third straight and fall back to .500 with a 10-10 record. Danny Gutierrez takes the loss after allowing five runs on seven hits. His relief pitcher Bret Severson did the same, minus the loss.
Saint's Jose Hernandez hit a two-run homer for the Saints in the top of the fifth to extend his hit streak to 15 games, a career high.
With the win, the Jackals move to 100 overall games over .500 for the first time in franchise history. The team also maintains its first-place standing in the Can-Am League with a 13-7 record.
The Saints lose their previous lead in the American Association wild card standings. They head back to the mid-west after an eleven game east coast road-trip.
The Jackals will head to Quebec tomorrow for a three-game set with the second-place Quebec Capitales. Game time tomorrow is set for 7:05 PM. Corey Scheiner will have the call ten minutes prior to game time.
