New Jersey Jackals News Release

GAME 1

In a game that featured 19 runs on 24 hits, the New Jersey Jackals were defeated by the Nashua Pride 10-9 at Holman Stadium.

In the top of the ninth, the Jackals went back-to-back on Nashua reliever, Bryce Kartler, to slice their deficit to 10-8. Bill Peavey flattened a pitch to left center for a solo-home run, and just a few pitches later John Lindsey launched a solo shot that forced Nashua to call-in its reliever, Nic Slack.

Mike Nesbit and Jason Belcher then hit singles off Slack, which forced Nashua to bring a third arm in the inning, Vincent Davis. Davis then recorded the last two outs to secure the save and the Nashua win.

In the bottom of the fourth inning, Nashua took a 10-6 advantage fueled by a flurry of RBI singles. They leapfrogged the Jackals with a six-run inning after being down 6-2.

The Jackals loaded the bases in the top of the sixth, but Kartler struck out Guillermo Reyes and Wilton Veras in succession to halt the potential threat.

Bill Peavey and John Lindsey each had 3 RBIs a piece. Peavey hit a two-run double in the third to pair with a ninth-inning homer. Lindsey hit two home runs, one in the third and another in the ninth.

Jackals starting pitcher Josh Brey pitched 3 2/3 innings, allowed eight runs on seven hits, while walking five batters to three strikeouts.

In relief, Ryan Dixon faced three batters and allowed two runs on three hits.

Jason Blanton pitched 2 innings, allowed one hit and one walk for the victory.

GAME 2

Perhaps the New Jersey Jackals were spent from its game one thriller, a 10-9 loss to Nashua.

In the top of the second, Billy Becher smacked a solo-home run to right field off Jackals starting pitcher, Joe Orloski, to give Nashua a 1-0 lead; enough to secure a doubleheader-sweep over the Jackals.

Glenn Murray hit a two-run home run in the bottom of the sixth to bump the lead to 3-0, more than sufficient for Nashua starting pitcher, Raul Valdes.

Valdes (1-0) pitched six shutout innings of two-hit ball and collected four strikeouts in a magnificent performance. Lenny Carter notched the save for Nashua.

In the top of the fourth, the Jackals garnered its first threat against Valdes. John Lindsey walked to begin the inning, Jason Belcher singled, and Mike Nesbit walked to load the bases. However, the Jackals attack fizzled as Valdes struck out Zach Smithlin to end the inning.

In the top of the sixth, Lindsey reached base on a two-out double, which forced Nashua manager to visit Valdes on the mound. Valdes immediately regrouped and got the next Jackal batter to fly out.

Orloski (1-2) pitched 6 innings and allowed three runs on six hits with two strikeouts in the loss. The Texan pitched strong, but his two mistakes were costly; a homerun in the second and another in the sixth.
