New Jersey Jackals News Release
The New Jersey Jackals used the long ball as their primary weapon, hitting four home runs in an 11-6 victory over the Salina Stockade on Wednesday evening at Yogi Berra Stadium.
The offensive brigade, which plated runs in each inning for the first time in the 2018 season, started with right fielder Jordan Hinshaw launching a long solo home run over the left center field fence, his first of the year to take a 1-0 lead in the home 1st.
They then plated a pair in the 2nd, starting with a walk from Nolan Meadows and a single from Andy Mocahbee. Rony Cabrera attempted to sacrifice bunt the runners over, but the bunt was fielded by Stockade starter Daniel Diaz who airmailed his throw into left field, allowing both Meadows and Mocahbee to score to make it 3-0 Jackals.
Carlos Triunfel cranked his first home-run of the season in the 3rd, a solo shot to make it 4-0.
The Stockade, however, made it close in the top of the 4th inning, when Tino Mention sent a Mariel Checo fastball off of the video board in left field, a three-run bomb to make it 4-3. New Jersey answered right back in the bottom of the 4th, with Andy Mocahbee and Rony Cabrera hitting back-to-back solo homers to get their lead back to 6-3.
Stockade designated hitter Bobby Webb lifted his 2nd home run of the season in the 5th to cut the Jackals lead to 6-4.
It was all New Jersey from that point on. Nolan Meadows drove in two runs with a single in the 5th to make it 8-4. Jackals' newcomer john Reuttiger manufactured a run in the 6th by singling, stealing 2nd base, advancing to third on a groundout, and then scored on a wild pitch to make it 9-4.
Jordan Hinshaw had a run-scoring single in the 7th, and Carlos Triunfel followed suit in the 8th with an RBI single in the 8th to wrap up the scoring for the Jackals, who would go on to win by a score of 11-6.
Jackals starting pitcher Mariel Checo struggled for the 2nd consecutive start, only lasting four innings (not qualifying for the win), allowing four runs on three hits and two walks. Reliever Evan DeLuca notched the win instead, tossing two perfect innings out of the bullpen, improving his record to 2-0.
New Jersey will look for the sweep on Thursday evening, as they take on the Stockade once again, at Yogi Berra Stadium. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 pm.
