Jackals Announce Protected List

Elmira Jackals News Release


The Elmira Jackals announced their protected list on Thursday, consisting of 19 players.

ECHL teams are allowed to protect as many players as they wish provided the players meet the guidelines as defined in the Collective Bargaining Agreement between the ECHL and the Professional Hockey Players' Association which state that teams shall retain the rights to each player that:

1. Signed a standard player contract in 2010-11 with the team and has not been traded or released, OR

2. Signed a standard player contract in 2010-11, and was recalled to the NHL/AHL or IIHF team, and has not been traded or released, OR

3. Had received a qualifying offer last summer for the current season, did not sign a standard player contract, and has not been traded or released, OR

4. Has been suspended by the team or the league, and has not been traded or released, OR

5. Signed a standard player contract on or after the first day of the 2010-11 regular season, then subsequently signed an NHL/AHL contract, and has not been traded or released, OR

6. Has executed the ECHL retirement form, and has not been traded or released.

Season-ending rosters are due from each team to the league on June 15 and may include up to 20 players. All players on the season-ending roster must have been signed to an ECHL contract during the 2010-11 season and have been included on the protected list. Players on the protected list that did not sign an ECHL contract this past season do not qualify for the season-ending roster and will become unrestricted free agents on June 16. Teams have exclusive negotiating rights to players on the season-ending roster until July 1 and can extend qualifying offers to up to eight players on its season-ending roster for the 2011-12 season.
