Thunder Announces 19 Players on 2011-12 Protected List

STOCKTON, Calif. - The Stockton Thunder, the ECHL affiliate of the Edmonton Oilers and San Jose Sharks of the National Hockey League, announced its protected list of 19 players for the 2011-12 reserve system, as defined in the Collective Bargaining Agreement between the ECHL and the Professional Hockey Players' Association.

The protected list includes:

Teams are allowed to protect as many players as they wish provided the players protected meet the guidelines as defined in the Collective Bargaining Agreement between the ECHL and the Professional Hockey Players' Association which state that teams shall retain the rights to each player that:

1. Signed a Standard Player's Contract ("SPC") in 2010-11 with the Member Club, and has not been traded or released, OR

2. Signed an SPC in 2010-11, and was recalled to the NHL/AHL or IIHF team, and has not been traded or released, OR

3. Had received a Qualifying Offer last summer for the current season, DID NOT sign an SPC, and has not been traded or released, OR

4. Has been suspended by the Member or League, and has not been traded or released, OR

5. Signed an SPC on or after the first day of the 2010-11 regular season, then subsequently an NHL/AHL contract, and has not been traded or released, OR

6. Has executed the ECHL Retirement Form, and has not been traded or released

Protected lists may exceed 20 players. Teams must complete all Future Consideration trades by 3 p.m. ET on June 13 and must submit their Season-Ending Roster by 3 p.m. ET on June 15. Season-ending rosters may include up to 20 players and cannot include any players who did not sign an ECHL contract in 2010-11.

Qualifying Offers are due to the ECHL league office on July 1, 2011.

OPENING NIGHT AND TICKET INFORMATION

Opening Night is Friday, Oct. 14, when the Thunder opens the 2011-12 regular season at home against the Colorado Eagles, starting at 7:30 p.m. at Stockton Arena. The game will be a historic ECHL event to welcome in the Eagles, who will play in their inaugural game after spending the previous eight seasons in the Central Hockey League.

The Thunder helped promote seven players onto the American Hockey League (originally holding ECHL contracts), toppled the 30-win plateau for the fourth time in six seasons, tied a club record with 86 points during the regular season and won 35 games in 2010-11, the second highest in club history.

A two-time recipient of the ECHL "Award of Excellence," the Thunder was voted "Best Local Sports Team" by readers of the San Joaquin Magazine, led the ECHL in attendance for four consecutive seasons and drew over 200,000 fans for the sixth consecutive season in 2010-11.
