Jackals Acquire Kelly Cup Champion from Alaska

ELMIRA, NY - August 13, 2015 - The Elmira Jackals, ECHL affiliate of the NHL's Buffalo Sabres and the AHL's Rochester Americans, announced today that the club has acquired the rights to Kelly Cup champion defenseman Brad Richard from the Alaska Aces in exchange for the rights to forward Brodie Reid.

Richard, 26, spent his first two professional seasons with the Alaska Aces and helped them win the 2013-14 Kelly Cup Championship while earning ECHL All-Rookie Team honors. The New Bedford, Mass. native recorded 30 points (six goals, 24 assists) and a plus-20 rating in 62 games during his rookie campaign. Last season, the 5-foot-10 195-pound blueliner registered 13 points (eight goals, five assists) in 24 games with the Aces in addition to two points in 12 games with the Iowa Wild of the American Hockey League (AHL).

Reid, 25, recorded nine points (three goals, six assists) in nine games with the Jackals last season. The Delta, British Columbia native spent the rest of the season in the American Hockey League, skating in one scoreless contest with the St. John's IceCaps, posting five points (three goals, two assists) in 11 games with the Adirondack Flames and registering 10 points (six goals, four assists) in 31 games with the Rochester Americans.

In a separate transaction, the Jackals have traded defenseman Mike Bergin to the Adirondack Thunder in exchange for future considerations.

Additionally, the club has signed forward Paul De Jersey to a tryout agreement.
