Elmira Jackals News Release

Elmira, NY- The Elmira Jackals, Proud member of the ECHL, will be conducting their Pro Placement Camp this upcoming Labor Day weekend, Friday, August 29th ~ Sunday, August 31st. Over 40 hockey players from North America, Europe and Japan will be battling and competing for training camp spots with the Elmira Jackals and several other minor league teams this coming October. All practice and game sessions will be held at the First Arena's Rec Rink and is open to the public, a great way for local hockey fans to get their hockey appetites up and running for the upcoming season after a long summer.

This is the Jackals third Pro Placement Camp. This summer's installment will showcase young talent looking for that opportunity to advance in their hockey career. Previous camps have seen several players move up through the ranks of pro hockey such as Milan Maslonka, who spent time in the AHL, former Elmira Jackals forward Dan Veenema, Chris Farrazoli and several others. If the camps of the past have any indications, the upcoming camp should produce one or two "diamonds in the rough." As in previous camps, this year's camp will be highly competitive.

This year's crop of young hopefuls will include several that have participated in past camps. Goaltender Calle Brattenberger (Sweden) will be returning for his third chance at stardom. He was invited to the Jackal's October Pre-season Camp after impressing the coaching staff in 2006. Forward Mark Lebbens (US) participated in the 2006 camp, will be returning after a very successful junior season with the Suffolk PAL of the MJHL. Forward Janis Purins (Latvia, USSR) will be returning for his second Pro Placement Camp appearance after getting an invite to the Jackals Pre-Season training camp in 2007.

This year's Pro Placement Camp will feature a little National Hockey League flavor as three players come from NHL roots. Forward Ben Boudreau is the son of former NHL player and current recipient of the Jack Adams Award, Bruce Boudreau, Head Coach of the Washington Capitals. Forward John Goodenough and Defenseman James Goodenough are the sons of former Philadelphia Flyers and Vancouver Canucks Defenseman Larry Goodenough.

Elmira Jackals General Manager Robbie S. Nichols will be on hand to invite four top players to the Jackals training camp which begins in early October. Also attending camp will be representatives from four other organizations: EPHL's Danbury Mad Hatters (G.M. Brendan Tedstone) and Copper City Chiefs (Coach Mark Bevis), IHL's Flint Generals (Coach Peter South) and SPHL's Richmond Renegades (Coach Brian Goudie). They will also be evaluating and possibly invite a couple players to their October pre-season training camps.

The Jackals Pro Placement Camp will begin on Friday night, August 29th with an off-ice workout and light skate. Players will be assigned to one of two teams, White and Blue. Saturday, August 30th, both teams will participate in practice beginning at 9:00 am. At 2:00pm the puck drops for the first of two games between the squads. The second contest between the two teams will be at 7:00 pm. All games will be normal regulation contests (three periods of 20 minutes, penalties, fights, etc).

Sunday, August 31st, the Championship game will take place at 10:00 am. Following the game, the players will be meeting with the Directors and Coaches where players will be placed.
