Odessa Jackalopes News Release
(Odessa, TX) - As the month of March begins the Jackalopes have nine games remaining in the regular season with five of those games at home and six of those games against teams with records over .500.
Last week's record: 1-2-0
This week's schedule: Friday vs. Laredo, Saturday at Texas, Sunday vs. Mississippi
Tuesday vs. Mississippi, 6-4 Loss
Two first period goals were the difference as Jeff Nelson scored on a penalty shot and Matt Pierce added a goal as well. The Jacks and Riverkings each traded goals throughout the remainder of the contest as the Kings won, 6-4.
Friday vs. New Mexico, 6-3 Win
Kory Karlander scored the third hat trick of the season by a Jackalopes player in Odessa's 6-3 win. Alexandre Vincent made 29 saves in his first appearance since February 7th. Along with Karlander's hat trick, Sebastien Thinel had three assists for a three point game.
Saturday vs. Amarillo, 6-5 Loss
Sebastien Thinel recorded his second hat trick of the season and tied a Jacks' season high with five points in the game, but Amarillo pulled off the comeback win, 6-5. The Gorillas scored three goals in a :45 span in the second period to erase a 3-0 Odessa lead and spark the comeback.
Friday vs. Laredo, 7:05 PM
It's the first meeting since December 13th and the third meeting overall between Laredo and Odessa. The Jacks won the first two meetings, 5-2 and 3-2. Rookie of the Year candidates Jeff Pierce (Odessa) and Darryl Smith (Laredo) will be featured in the game. Smith leads all rookies with 63 points, Pierce is second with 54.
Saturday at Texas, 7:05 PM
The two top teams in the Southern Conference battle for the final time this season. In the last two meetings combined, Odessa and Texas have competed in 22-rounds of shootout hockey with each team winning one of those games by a 4-3 score. Odessa trails Texas by seven points for the top seed in the Southern Conference.
Sunday vs. Mississippi, 4:05 PM
Odessa looks for their first win against Mississippi in the third and final meeting this season. The Jacks lost the first two meetings, 4-1 and 6-4. Mississippi is three points back of Colorado for the best record in the CHL.
