Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs News Release

BOSSIER CITY, LA - Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs goaltender Jon Horrell has been named this week's Oakley/CHL Goaltender of the Week, the Central Hockey League announced today. Horrell posted a 1.72 goals-against average and .943 saves percentage while helping lead the Mudbugs to a 2-1-1 record in four starts last week.

The 27-year-old netminder was between the pipes for every minute of the Mudbugs' stretch of four games in five days last week, and was named a star of the game in three of the four. The Mudbugs started the week with a big divisional contest Wednesday night in Oklahoma City. Horrell came up with 44 big saves to keep the 'Bugs in the game despite a 47-24 shot advantage for the Blazers. Although they lost 3-2 in a shootout, Bossier-Shreveport still earned a point in the standings thanks in part to Horrell's goaltending.

Friday night the Mudbugs came home to take on the highest-scoring team in the CHL, the Colorado Eagles. Horrell gave up just two goals on 19 shots against the high-flying Eagles, but was slightly out-dueled by his counterpart (Colorado's Andrew Penner) in a 2-1 loss. Bossier-Shreveport came right back the next night to face the Texas Brahmas, who are the league's second-most prolific scoring club. Horrell frustrated the Brahmas with 36 saves in the game, including a perfect 11 saves on 11 shots in the deciding third period as the 'Bugs defeated Texas 4-2.

Finally, Horrell nearly had a shutout Sunday at Wichita, stopping 18 of 19 shots as the Mudbugs topped his old team 4-1. The Thunder's only goal came off a deflection in front as Horrell improved to 3-0 this year against his former club.

The third-year pro out of Bowling Green State University holds a record of 12-3-2 in 18 appearances this season with a 2.53 goals-against average and .916 saves percentage. He has started Bossier-Shreveport's last seven games dating back to February 13, posting a 5-1-1 record in that time. Horrell has seen a number of career firsts this season as well, including his first career shutout (a 1-0 triumph over Wichita on December 4), the first three shootout victories of his pro career and now his first Goaltender of the Week award.
