Rage's Colt King Named CHL Player of the Week

Broomfield, Colo. - The Central Hockey League announced today that Rocky Mountain Rage left winger Colt King has been named the Oakley CHL Player of the Week for Feb. 23 - March 1.

As he has been all season, King was a dominating force last week when he helped the Rage win two of their three games on the way to securing the first playoff berth in franchise history. He posted a total of seven points on the strength of three goals and four assists, a +7 rating, and 11 penalty minutes.

King began the week playing his 300th career game at Rapid City on Feb. 25. He scored twice in the opening five minutes, including the eventual game-winner, as the team rolled to a 7-1 victory. He later tacked on an assist and an impressive knockdown of the Rush's Ryan Hand for a Gordie Howe hat trick. The fifth-year pro then added a goal and two assists in a 4-2 win over Tulsa on Feb. 27, followed by a single helper on Feb. 28 at Oklahoma City in a 3-2 loss.

A fourth round draft pick by the Colorado Avalanche in the 2001 NHL Entry Draft, King leads the Rage this season with career highs in goals (26), assists (35), and points (61). He is currently tied for 15th in the league in scoring and ranked fifth in shooting percentage (19.1%). King is also 11th with 154 penalty minutes, including seven fighting majors, establishing himself as one of the elite power forwards in the CHL.

King is the second Rocky Mountain player to garner a Player of the Week Award this season. David Morelli received the honor for Jan. 12 - 18.

The Rage next hit the ice on Thursday at Broomfield Event Center against the Colorado Eagles at 7:05 p.m. Individual tickets for all of Rocky Mountain's remaining games at the BEC during the month of March are available for as low as $5 for kids 12 and under (with the purchase of at least one adult ticket) and cost just $10 for students with a valid ID.
