Hamilton Tiger-Cats News Release
Hamilton, Ontario - The Hamilton Tiger-Cats announced today that they have re-signed non-import safety Wayne Shaw to a one year (plus an option) contract.
"Wayne is one of the leaders in our secondary," said Defensive Co-ordinator Kavis Reed. "He's a solid player who gives us a strong veteran presence on our defence. We're glad to have him on board this season."
The 5-10, 185-pound native of Winnipeg, Manitoba finished the 2005 season with 30 defensive tackles, four special teams tackles and three interceptions.
In 2004, Shaw played in all 18 games during the Ticats regular season after Hamilton signed him on February 9th. He led the Tiger-Cats with four interceptions and nine pass knock downs.
Prior to signing with the Ticats, in 2003 Shaw played in all 18 regular season games with the Montreal Alouettes. He led the Alouettes with eight pass knock downs, finished second on the team with four interceptions and added 41 defensive tackles and two special teams tackles.
Shaw also spent three seasons with the Toronto Argonauts, where in 2001 he led the Canadian Football League in interceptions with six and was selected as an All-Canadian and Eastern All-Star.
His collegiate career included playing two seasons with the Kent State University Golden Flashes after transferring from North Dakota State Junior College. In 22 career games with the Golden Flashes, Shaw made 95 total tackles (75 solo) and had three interception returns for 58 yards.
