Corpus Christi Hooks News Release
CORPUS CHRISTI - The day South Texas sports fans have been pointing to since March is almost here.
Thursday night at 7 p.m., the two-time MLS Cup champion Houston Dynamo meet the Laredo Heat in the first appearance by an MLS team south of San Antonio... on the eve of the World Cup.
Limited tickets for the historic match are available at the Whataburger Field ticket office, through
whataburgerfield.com and by calling 361-561-HOOK (4665). Advance ticket prices range from $10-$18. The match day ticket price range is $12-$20, based on availability.
To accommodate soccer, the Whataburger Field grounds crew has joined forces with the Dynamo field maintenance staff from Houston's Robertson Stadium. They'll excavate the pitching mound and lay sod to cover the dirt potion of the infield and baselines. After the soccer match ends Thursday night, the transition back to baseball configuration begins.
The Hooks play host to San Antonio in the first game of an eight-day homestand next Sunday at 6:05.
Houston is currently in fifth place in the Western Conference of MLS. Laredo, a member of the Premier Development League, stands 4-2 and is tied for first place in the Mid-South Division.
Here is a look at Thursday's festivities. Fan fun begins with Soccerfest from 5-7 p.m. on the west side of Whataburger Field. Soccerfest features live music from Tejano Highway 281 and Ricky Naranjo y los gamblers, plus games for the entire family.
