Springfield Cardinals News Release
San Antonio, TX - After shutting out the Missions on Sunday afternoon, the Cardinals were in a good position to take the three game series from San Antonio on Monday night with Nick Additon on the mound.
Springfield would threaten in the top of the first inning against starter Cory Luebke as Daryl Jones singled, Matt Carpenter walked and Charlie Cutler walked to load the bases with two outs. Aaron Luna then struck out to end the threat to the Cardinals.
Nick Additon and Missions' starter Cory Luebke would duel it out over the next four innings as niehter allowed a base runner. San Antonio would finally crack to scoreboard in the 5th as Michael Collins got the Missions first hit of the game, a one out triple to center, and was driven home on a bloop single to right by Yefri Carvajal to give the Missions a 1-0 lead.
Luebke would continue to be tough against Springfield as the left hander allowed only one base runner after the first inning, a walk to Adron Chambers in the 5th inning.
Additon ran into some trouble in the bottom of the 6th as Mitch Canham drew a one out walk, Andy Parrino singled and Cedric Hunter delivered a two-run double to make the score 3-0.
