El Paso Chihuahuas News Release
The Albuquerque Isotopes scored four runs in the bottom of the ninth inning to come back and stun the El Paso Chihuahuas 5-4 Sunday night. The Isotopes' rally included two Chihuahuas' errors with two outs in the ninth.
The Chihuahuas' first lead came in the second inning, when El Paso scored three runs on an RBI single by pitcher Daniel McCutchen and a two-out, two-run single by Ramiro Pena. El Paso led 3-1 in the second inning, and the score held until the eighth, when Travis Jankowski's RBI single made it 4-1 Chihuahuas.
The Chihuahuas led 4-1 with one out in the bases empty in the bottom of the ninth. Albuquerque's Roger Bernadina singled, Tom Murphy homered and Tim Wheeler walked, putting the tying run on base.
After a strikeout for the second out, Rafael Ynoa lined a ball off third baseman Will Middlebrooks' glove to prolong the game. Trevor Story hit a two-out RBI single to tie the score and when pitcher Jay Jackson made a throwing error on Cristhian Adames' infield single, the winning run scored. It was Albuquerque's third walk-off win of the series.
McCutchen allowed only one run in six innings of work and left the game on line for a win. Newcomer Caleb Thielbar tossed a scoreless inning in his first appearance in the Padres' organization.
The Chihuahuas do not play on Monday.
