Roberts, Hauschild Claim Player Of The Week Accolades
August 10, 2015 - Pacific Coast League (PCL1) News Release
ROUND ROCK, Texas - The Pacific Coast League announced today that Ryan Roberts of the Nashville Sounds and Mike Hauschild of the Fresno Grizzlies have been named the Player and Pitcher of the Week for the period of August 3-9.
Ryan Roberts' .960 slugging percentage and 1.389 OPS were both the best in the PCL this week, while the left fielder also held league-highs with seven extra-base hits and 24 total bases. He ranked second in the PCL with four home runs and his eight RBI tied for the third-highest total. Roberts hit safely in five of the six games he played, recording nine hits for a .360 batting average. His first home run of the week was a game-tying shot in the eighth inning Monday to help the Sounds to a 5-3 victory at Omaha. The following day, Roberts belted two home runs, including a go-ahead shot in the 12th inning to secure an 8-6 win for Nashville. He compiled three hits that game as well as a season-high four RBI. The Dallas, Texas native has a .297 average, nine home runs, and 47 RBI this season, all ranking second on the Sounds' roster.
The Oakland Athletics signed Roberts to a minor-league deal on April 26, marking the eighth organization he has played for in his 13-year career. He was originally selected by the Toronto Blue Jays in the 18th round of the 2003 First-Year Player Draft from the University of Texas at Arlington. The 34-year-old has played 518 games at the major league level, most recently with the Boston Red Sox in 2014. The Player of the Week accolade is the first Roberts has received in his professional career.
Mike Hauschild posted the lowest ERA among PCL starters with at least two starts this week with a 1.29 mark, while also recording two wins for the Grizzlies. The right-hander walked just one batter in 14 combined innings, and his 13 strikeouts were the second-most in the league. Hauschild worked the longest outing of his career Monday with eight shutout innings against Albuquerque. He scattered five hits and no walks that night during Fresno's 6-0 victory. Hauschild logged six innings Saturday, limiting Sacramento to two runs off six hits, as the Grizzlies went on to defeat the River Cats 12-2. He struck out eight batters during his win, tying for the second-most he has accumulated in a single-game this year. In his first Triple-A season, Hauschild has a 6-3 record, 3.49 ERA, and 49 strikeouts with Fresno, after being promoted from Double-A Corpus Christi on June 8.
Hauschild, 25, has been in the Astros' farm system since 2012, when he was drafted by Houston in the 33rd round out of the University of Dayton in Ohio. This is the second Pitcher of the Week award he has earned in his career, with the other coming in 2014 as a member of the Corpus Christi Hooks in the Texas League.
