April 6, 2004 - Pacific Coast League (PCL1)
Albuquerque Isotopes News Release
Albuquerque's Triple-A team announced its Opening Day roster for the 2004 season this morning with 14 new players slated to make their Isotopes debut.
Manager Tracy Woodson's roster has a mix of experienced players and young players as 11 of the 24 players have Major League experience, including eight of 12 pitchers. Nine of the players on the 2004 roster (pitchers Michael Flannery, Kevin Olsen, and Michael Tejera, infielders Kevin Hooper, Drew Niles, and Derek Wathan, outfielders Chris Aguila and Matt Padgett, and catcher Ryan Jorgensen) were originally drafted by the Marlins.
The Isotopes 24-man roster that takes the field at Memphis on Thursday also features ten returning players. Pitchers Toby Borland, Marty McLeary, Kevin Olsen, Scott Sanders, and Aaron Small, along with infielders Kevin Hooper, Wilson Valdez, and Derek Wathan, outfielder Chris Ashby, and catcher Matt Treanor all saw action in Isotopes uniforms in 2003. Jason Wood, a returning Isotope with Major League experience, will start the season on the disabled list.
Albuquerque opens the 2004 season Thursday with a four game series at Memphis followed by the home opener on April 12 at Isotopes Park.
