
Stingers finalize roster for opening night

SALT LAKE CITYâThe 24 players on the Stingers' roster will be together for the first time on Tuesday in preparation for Thursday night's season opener. The Stingers return 14 players who played for Salt Lake last season. Seven of the club's 12 pitchers will return to the pitching staff. Chris Bootcheck, Dusty Bergman, Steve Green, Matt Hensley, Joel Peralta and Derrick Turnbow will join with newcomers Steve Andrade, Delvin James, Bobby Jenks, *Jason Middlebrook and *Yoshitaka Mizuo.
The two catchers who manned the plate last season are returning in 2004, namely Tom Gregorio and Wil Nieves. Alfredo Amezaga, Robb Quinlan and Adam Riggs are coming back to the infield along with Alex Pelaez, Brian Specht and Jake Thrower who will make their debut with the Stingers this season. Gary Johnson and Barry Wesson are returning to the outfield with newcomers Brian Gordon and Derrick Gibson. The 24-man roster is set, and unlike previous years, the roster will remain at 24 for the entire season.
