Memphis Redbirds News Release
MEMPHIS, TN - Albuquerque avoided a series sweep with a 3-2 win in 10 innings over Memphis Thursday afternoon at AutoZone Park.
After tying the game in the eighth inning, the Isotopes scratched out a run in the top of the 10th inning to claim their first lead since the fifth. Jamie Hoffman's pinch-hit, RBI-single scored J.D. Closser from second base to put the 'Topes on top. Jon Link sealed the win with a 1-2-3 ninth inning. Memphis' two runs came on a Bryan Anderson two-run home run in the sixth but the 'Birds stranded 13 runners on base and went 1-for-11 with runners in scoring position on the day.
Luis Ayala picked up the win fanning two and pitching around two hits in his two innings of relief work. Rich Rundles took the loss for Memphis giving up one run on two hits in the 10th inning. The loss wasted an outstanding effort from Redbirds starter P.J. Walters. The right-hander allowed one run on two hits with no walks and nine strikeouts over six innings in his season debut.
Memphis visits Round Rock for the first time this season tomorrow night with game time scheduled for 7:05 p.m. at The Dell Diamond. The Redbirds send Lance Lynn to the hill to face lefty Andy Van Hekken.
The 'Birds next homestand begins Tuesday, May 11 with Portland and Tacoma visiting AutoZone Park for the first time since 2008. For ticket information call 901.721.6000 or visit memphisredbirds.com.
