Charlottetown Islanders News Release
The Charlottetown Islanders' three-in-three Quebec road trip draws to a close this afternoon in Sherbrooke, as the team will meet the Sherbrooke Phoenix for the first time this season.
The Islanders are coming off of a hard-fought 4-3 overtime victory over the Victoriaville Tigres, a game in which the Islanders came back from two separate 1-goal deficits. The team continues to sit sixth overall in the QMJHL record with 23 points and a 11-6-1-0 record.
Pierre-Olivier Joseph has had the hot hand for Charlottetown thus far this weekend, recording a point on every Islanders goal scored since they arrived in Quebec. He has four goals and three assists over the last two games. Daniel Hardie continued his outstanding play last night with two goals and an assist in the victory. He now has 20 points over his last nine games.
The Phoenix (7-8-1-1) have gotten off to a slow start this season and have lost three straight games in a row. They last played on Friday night, losing in the shootout 5-4 to the league-leading Rouyn-Noranda Huskies.
The team is led in scoring by Edouard St-Laurent. The former Baie-Comeau Drakkar forward has taken his game to another level since arriving in Sherbrooke, scoring nine goals and 16 points in 17 games so far this season. Another Phoenix player that many scouts have their eye on is forward Samuel Poulin. The 2nd overall pick of the 2017 QMJHL Draft is pegged by many to be a first-round pick in the upcoming NHL Draft. So far this season, Poulin has 9 goals and 13 points in 17 games.
