Isles Look to Snap Losing Skid against Val-d'or

November 25, 2023 - Quebec Maritimes Junior Hockey League (QMJHL)
Charlottetown Islanders News Release

The Islanders look to snap a four-game losing skid as the Val-d'or Foreurs come to town.

Charlottetown is coming off of a 5-2 loss in Moncton on Thursday, Nov. 23 while the Foreurs are on a losing streak of their own, dropping their last five games. Most recently, last night to the Acadie-Bathurst Titan 5-0.

Aksels Ozols will get the nod in goal tonight. He stopped 20 of 25 shots on Thursday in Moncton but some of his goals were no fault of his own.

Ozols has an .877 save percentage and a 3.66 goals against average in 16 appearances this season.

Special teams has been the Isles best aspect In their last two games, They're power play is producing at a 37.5 per cent rate and their penalty kill unit has been perfect over the last 11 attempts.

The lineup looks the same as their matchup against Moncton. Sam Bowness, Kevin Walker, and Ross Campbell remain out of the lineup.

Keys to victory

In their last game, the Isles played a clean game in terms of penalties, only taking one over 60 minutes against the Wildcats. If their game is that disciplined against the Foreurs, they should have no problem coming out with an addition to the win column.

They need to start their periods stronger. It's been the same story all season, they don't start as strong as they would like. In the first two periods against the Wildcats, they gave up two goals early in each of the first two periods. They need to play a complete 60 minutes.

Players to watch

CHA - Matthew Butler scored just two games ago against Baie-Comeau and had his fair share of chances in Moncton. Watch for the skilful forward to start heating up as Butler is due for more goals, scoring two to go along with his 11 assists in his rookie campaign.

Isaac Vos is now on a two game point streak, assisting in both games this week. Vos is still looking for his first marker of the 2023-24 season and what better time than now to do so. The P.E.I. native has been exceptional defensively, so when the offence gets going, look out.

VdO - In their first matchup of the season, Tomas Cibulka had one goal and two assists, contributing on every goal the Foreurs scored. The Czechian defender is having a career year this year as he is going point-per-game in his first 23 games of the season, leading Val-d'or in scoring.

Puck drop at the Eastlink Centre is at 7 p.m. Fans can tune into the game at MAX 93.1FM and can purchase tickets.
