Charlottetown Islanders News Release

It's hard to imagine two teams trending in similar directions in a three team mini-division; however, that's what's happened as the Charlottetown Islanders and Halifax Mooseheads collide in a Saturday night matchup at the Eastlink Centre.

The Islanders (27-4-0-0) remain atop the QMJHL standings amidst an incredible 12-game winning streak. It seems like so long ago that there were questions surrounding how the team's offense would perform this season; however, a goals per game average of 4.87 and 151 goals for has very much silenced any questions that may remain.

The trio mainly doing the silencing are Cédric Desruisseaux, Brett Budgell, and Thomas Casey. Charlottetown's top line have been lights out since the resumption of play in 2021; Desruisseaux has picked up at least a point in all but one game this calendar year, while Budgell recently had a 13-game point streak snapped. Casey, who recently committed to the U-Sports powerhouse UNB Varsity Reds hockey team for next year, has recorded multi-point games in 11 of 17 games so far in 2021.

Not to be outdone, Patrick Guay has quietly become an offensive catalyst on the team's second line. The 18-year-old from Magog, Quebec has performed at a point-per-game paces since joining the Isles, picking up 16 points in 15 games as an Islander so far.

On the injury front, Patrick Leblanc remains sidelined with a lower body injury sustained in last Wednesday's game against the Cape Breton Eagles.

Meanwhile in Halifax, the Mooseheads (13-15-4-3) are beginning to trend in a positive direction, picking up points in four of their last five games. Their offense is picking up steam, having scored at least four goals in each of those five games. They're coming off of back-to-back victories over Cape Breton on Wednesday and Thursday nights.

Philadelphia Flyers prospect Elliot Desnoyers has found a new gear in March as he comes off a hat trick performance against the Eagles. The forward, who was acquired from the Moncton Wildcats this past offseason, has picked up 13 points in six games this month.

You can find all the fun this evening on Ocean 100's Saturday Night Hockey with George Matthews and Cory Arsenault starting at 6:45pm. You can also watch the game on Eastlink Community TV or by taking in the action at any one of our viewing partners across Charlottetown - The Factory Downtown, the PEI Brewing Company, Dooly's on Kent Street, Outrider's Cookhouse, or Boston Pizza!
