Isles and Eagles Renew Hostilities in Charlottetown
February 6, 2021 - Quebec Maritimes Junior Hockey League (QMJHL)
Charlottetown Islanders News Release
As the old adage goes, there's no rest for the weary. For the Charlottetown Islanders, that statement heavily rings true.
Playing their third game in four nights, the Islanders will take on a well-rested Cape Breton Eagles squad that will be playing just their first game this week.
The Islanders (15-3-0-0) rebounded from a poor performance Wednesday with an outstanding 6-0 performance last night against the Halifax Mooseheads. The offense came from a number of sources with William Trudeau, Thomas Casey, Oscar Plandowski, Zac Beauregard, and Drew Elliott each racking up multi-point efforts.
Colten Ellis picked up his 12th straight victory to start his Islanders career last night, a mark that ties a QMJHL record set by Louis Domingue and Pierre Pérusse. His third shutout of the season was the 14th of his career, pulling him in to a tie for sixth in QMJHL history in that category.
Ellis' dominance throughout his career continues to grow beyond those two marks, as he continues to sit first all-time in career goals against average (2.36) and moved into ninth all time last night with a career save percentage of .911.
One player who has had a great start to 2021 is Zac Beauregard. With another two assists last night, the diminutive centre has picked up five points in his past four games. The 19-year-old from Repentigny, Quebec now has 12 points in 18 games to start the season.
Meanwhile, Cape Breton (7-10-0-0) will look to get in to the win column for the first time in 2021 in tonight's game. They dropped their first decision to the Islanders 2-0 back on January 29th, following that up with a 6-3 loss to the Mooseheads just one night later. The Eagles are a team that will look to lean on some younger faces in their lineup; ten members of their team are just 17 years old or younger, including four of the team's defensemen.
Cape Breton recently named their leadership group for the second half of the season, naming Cape Breton native Jarrett Baker the team's captain. He was the fifth Cape Breton native to be named captain of his hometown team. Nathan Larose, Connor Trenholm, and Liam Kidney were named assistants.
Once again, Eastlink Community TV will be carrying the action, along with any of our five viewing partners across Charlottetown. Just wanna listen along? George Matthews and Cory Arsenault will have the call on Ocean 100's Saturday Night Hockey!
