Islanders Sign Wotherspoon to Entry-Level Contract

BRIDGEPORT, Conn. - The New York Islanders announced today that defenseman Parker Wotherspoon has agreed to a three-year, entry-level contract.
Wotherspoon, 18, has played the past three seasons with the Tri-City Americans of the Western Hockey League, scoring 11 goals and 45 assists in 71 games this season. In 210 career WHL games, Wotherspoon has 22 goals and 94 assists. He made his professional debut with the American Hockey League's Bridgeport Sound Tigers at the end of 2015-16, recording one assist in six games.
The Islanders' fourth-round selection (112nd overall) in the 2015 NHL Draft, Wotherspoon served as an alternate captain for Tri-City in 2015-16. The 6-foot, 171-pound defenseman won a Bronze Medal with Canada's at the 2015 Under-18 World Junior Championships and a Silver with Canada-Pacific at the 2014 World Under-17 Hockey Challenge.
A Surrey, British Columbia native, Wotherspoon's older brother, Tyler, is currently a defenseman with the Calgary Flames.
